How Our Technology Works

Instasure's software-based technology employs advanced AI and deep learning algorithms to extract various health measurements using Photoplethysmography (PPG) within 20-60 seconds. Our technology combines computer vision, signal processing, and machine learning techniques to extract and analyze PPG signals and deliver vital signs and biomarker measurements. Delivered as a Software Development Kit (Instasure SDK), the technology supports contactless spot checks through camera-based devices like smartphones and tablets, and continuous checks through contact-based PPG sensors.

What is Photoplethysmography (PPG)?

text image

Photoplethysmography (PPG) is a well-established, non-invasive optical technique used for measuring physiological parameters. PPG has been in use since 1942 in oximeters, which can commonly be found in hospitals today. PPG is also used in wearables to measure health indicators such as heart rate, oxygen saturation, blood pressure, blood tests, and more. The technique measures the changes in light absorption caused by variations in blood volume by emitting light into the tissue on the surface of the skin and subsequently detecting the light transmitted or reflected back. The measured changes enable the assessment of various physiological characteristics.

FAQs:

What is Instasure’s health and wellness check solution?

Instasure offers businesses a software-only Health Data Platform that enables spot and continuous health and wellness checks anytime, anywhere, utilizing cameras on smartphones, tablets, laptops, as well as PPG sensors.

How should users perform health checks with Instasure's technology?

Taking a health check with Instasure's technology is effortless, even for those without technical expertise. It's as simple as taking a 35-60 second video selfie! For optimal results, users should remain still, avoid talking, and ensure they are in a well-lit environment. Instasure's technology is designed to measure health indicators while the user is at rest.

How is Instasure’s technology delivered?

Instasure‘s video-based spot-check technology is delivered as a software development kit (SDK).
Instasure‘s continuous check technology is delivered as an SDK or a ready-to-use app, Instasure Connect. Learn more about our SDK here.

Which devices is Instasure compatible with?

Instasure’s SDK is compatible with a range of devices and platforms, including iOS and Android mobile devices as well as web applications for Google Chrome and Safari.

Instasure’s continuous checks are compatible with the Polar Verity Sense™.

Does Instasure have access to end user data?

No, Instasure does not have access to end user data.

Does Instasure require internet connection to perform health checks?

Instasure’s unique edge architecture allows end users to perform health checks without an internet connection.

How does Instasure's fall detection work?

Instasure's fall detection technology uses the gyroscope and accelerometer of a Polar Verity Sense™ optical heart rate sensor, worn by the user, to detect falls. In the event of a fall, the system can generate a timed notification prompting the user to respond. If unanswered, the system triggers two consecutive vital signs checks while an alert with the location of the event can be sent to designated contacts. These settings are customizable to your organization’s needs.

Does Instasure sell directly to consumers?

Instasure operates on a B2B model and does not sell directly to consumers.
